How can I improve it and where else can I advertise him? He is currently on newrider.com, horseexchange.com and yardandgroom. – preferably free sites please.

By the way, I know all about contracts etc. I have one drawn up from his previous loan. 
sounds great except it is a bit pricey for a semi retired that you can’t do much with. if its full loan then they take over all costs of horse, but do not pay for the rent of him. is the cost the cost of the yard including insurance etc. there are lots of fit horses about for loan or share as people start to worry about money perhaps consider loaning him where they can move him that way you are including people who have their own land and are perhaps looking for a semi retired companion. good luck
